IVF in India for UAE residents: costs and planning
Also for patients from: United States (USD) · United Kingdom (GBP) · Canada (CAD)
Quick answer
Indian clinics typically price a single IVF cycle for overseas patients at around AED 9,180–18,360 ($2,500–$5,000), with medications adding roughly AED 1,290–5,510. UAE cycles run about AED 15,000–50,000 on one price-comparison site. India allows IVF at registered clinics but no surrogacy for foreigners. Compare itemised written plans.1, 2, 3, 4
Plan the full cost from UAE
Compare the full cost in dirhams, including any return visit and follow-up in the UAE.
Ask for separate prices for the cycle, medicines, tests, any ICSI, freezing, storage and embryo transfer. Published ranges are research references; the treating provider must confirm the current price and your plan.
Cost at a glance
Dirham amounts use the fixed AED 3.6725 rate, rounded, from bands we checked on 25 Sep 2026. The India side is drawn from medical-travel facilitators; the UAE side from a price-comparison site and an older Dubai government-centre tariff. Treat every figure as a starting point, not a quote.
| Line item | India (USD, published) | ≈ AED | UAE reference |

| Medications | $350–$1,200+1; $800–$1,5002 | AED 1,290–5,510 | Often quoted separately |
| Frozen embryo transfer | $300–$9001 | AED 1,100–3,310 | Ask for it itemised |

Time in India: about 3–4 weeks for a fresh cycle, according to The Medical Travel Company; a frozen transfer is a shorter trip.2
For couples and women living in the UAE, India is close enough that IVF there doesn't have to mean a month-long expedition. The flight is about three hours, which makes a second visit for a frozen transfer far more practical than it is from Europe or North America. This guide shows India's published 2026 IVF prices in dirhams next to UAE price data, and explains the Indian rules that apply to you whatever passport you hold.
What IVF costs in the UAE
There's no single official price. Two published reference points:
- Zavis, a UAE price-comparison site, puts one IVF cycle at AED 15,000–50,000 across the country, with a typical price of about AED 24,375. Its typical figure for Dubai is about AED 30,000 (range AED 20,000–50,000), and about AED 28,000 for Abu Dhabi, based on March 2026 data.3 Zavis also says IVF is excluded from most UAE insurance plans, although some premium employer plans cover one or two cycles with pre-approval.3 Check your own policy rather than relying on that.
- Dubai Fertility Centre, run under the Dubai Health Authority, published a tariff listing IVF at AED 14,000 and ICSI at AED 18,000. That document is dated February 2022, so treat it as a historical reference and ask for current prices.5
India's published prices in dirhams
Indian clinics usually quote international patients in US dollars. At the fixed rate of AED 3.6725 per dollar:
| Item | Published (USD) | ≈ AED |
|---|---|---|
| IVF cycle, excluding drugs (facilitator)1 | $2,500–$4,500 | AED 9,180–16,530 |
| IVF cycle (second facilitator)2 | $3,000–$5,000 | AED 11,020–18,360 |
| Medications1, 2 | $350–$1,500 | AED 1,290–5,510 |
| Frozen embryo transfer1 | $300–$900 | AED 1,100–3,310 |
| Genetic testing, where the law allows1 | $600–$2,500+ | AED 2,200–9,180+ |
| Donor-egg cycle, if you're eligible1 | $3,500–$7,000+ | AED 12,850–25,710+ |
Indian clinics' own rupee figures look cheaper again: Cloudnine's blog gives ₹1.5–2.5 lakh in big cities, and Dr Hrishikesh Pai's 2026 article ₹1–3 lakh per cycle. Those are aimed at Indian residents, and overseas patients are generally quoted more.6, 7
At the low end, UAE and Indian prices overlap. The bigger gap appears when you compare India with typical Dubai prices, or when you need extras like ICSI and frozen transfers. Do the sum for your own protocol, including flights and hotel nights, rather than comparing headline numbers.
Why the short flight matters for IVF
Dubai to Delhi takes about three to three and a half hours.8 For IVF that opens up options:
- Frozen transfers become realistic. If your first transfer doesn't work, a short trip back for a frozen embryo transfer is far easier than it is from London or Toronto.
- Split monitoring may be possible. Some early scans might be done by a doctor in the UAE, but only if both clinics agree the plan in writing. It won't suit every protocol.
- A partner can come for the key days rather than the whole cycle. The patient still needs to be in India for most of a fresh cycle, which one facilitator puts at three to four weeks.2
India's rules, whatever passport you hold
India is not a surrogacy destination for foreign nationals. This page covers IVF with your own eggs and sperm, or donor gametes where Indian law permits it.
The UAE has its own fertility law, which we don't cover here. What follows is India's side, from the two 2021 Acts. It's a summary, not legal advice.
- Registered clinics only. Under the ART (Regulation) Act, 2021, clinics and banks must be registered; the national portal publishes the registry.9, 10
- Age limits: women above 21 and below 50; men above 21 and below 55.9
- Who can be treated. The Act refers to an infertile married couple and to a woman above 21. It doesn't set a separate nationality test for IVF, so Indian passport holders and foreign nationals living in the UAE are treated under the same text, but ask the clinic to confirm your eligibility in writing.9
- Donor gametes come only from registered banks. An egg donor may donate once in her life, with at most seven eggs retrieved; a single donor's eggs or sperm can go to only one couple; and the patient must buy 12 months of insurance for the egg donor.9
- Genetic testing is only for screening known, heritable or genetic diseases, and sex selection is banned.9
- Moving embryos out of India. The Act prohibits transferring gametes and embryos, except your own, for personal use, with the National Board's permission.9, 10 If you hope to ship embryos to a UAE clinic, you'll also need to satisfy UAE rules on the receiving side, which we haven't assessed.
- Surrogacy is restricted to Indian couples and certain Indian women; commercial surrogacy is banned.4
Checking a clinic properly
Recommendations from friends and colleagues are a reasonable place to start. Still check:
- Registration on the national ART registry, looked up yourself.10
- Results given as babies born, not positive tests, for each egg collection, split by the woman's age and by own versus donor eggs.
- Every cost on paper before you fly, from stimulation drugs and ICSI to embryo storage and the price of each later transfer.
- JCI or NABH accreditation for any hospital back-up, checked on the accreditors' own sites.11, 12
- No guaranteed-pregnancy promises. A 2025 BMJ feature and an Indian ground report both described problems in parts of the sector.13, 14
We don't publish "best clinic" rankings.
Visas for UAE residents
Your passport decides this, not your residence. Indian citizens need no visa, and OCI cardholders can use their OCI card, which works as a multiple-entry lifelong visa.15 Most other nationalities can apply online for an e-Medical visa, with an e-Medical Attendant visa for a partner.16
Travel & visa: our India medical visa guide explains the clinic letter, the dates and the rules on registration.
When a UAE clinic may be the better choice
If your insurance covers IVF, if you need many monitoring visits, if you want donor treatment that India's rules don't allow for you, or if your protocol calls for routine embryo screening, treatment in the UAE may be simpler. Ask a UAE clinic for an itemised quote first; it's the fairest benchmark for anything from India.
FAQ: IVF in India for UAE residents
How much does IVF cost in India in dirhams?
Facilitators list roughly $2,500–$5,000 a cycle for overseas patients, which is about AED 9,180–18,360. Drugs usually add AED 1,290–5,510, and a later frozen embryo transfer around AED 1,100–3,310.
How does that compare with IVF in the UAE?
Zavis puts a UAE cycle at AED 15,000–50,000, with a typical Dubai price of about AED 30,000 (March 2026 data). The ranges overlap at the low end, so compare full itemised quotes, including flights and hotel nights.
Does UAE insurance cover IVF?
Often not, according to Zavis, though some premium employer plans cover a cycle or two with pre-approval. Check your own policy in writing, including whether it covers anything done abroad.
Is IVF in India legal for expats living in the UAE?
India's ART (Regulation) Act, 2021 lets registered clinics treat women aged between 21 and 50 and men aged between 21 and 55, and it doesn't add a nationality condition for IVF. Clinics still decide who qualifies, so ask them to confirm it in writing. Surrogacy is closed to foreign nationals.
Can I do the frozen transfer on a later trip?
Yes, and the short flight makes that practical: Dubai to Delhi is about three to three and a half hours. Keep your embryos in India and plan a short return visit, since exporting embryos needs permission from India's National Board.
Do I need a visa?
It depends on your passport. Indian citizens don't need one, OCI cardholders use their OCI card, and most other nationalities apply online for an e-Medical visa, with an e-Medical Attendant visa for a partner.
